ACEG’s ecological restoration project hailed as typical model at COP15

The 15th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (COP15) kicked off in Kunming, Southwest China's Yunnan Province, on October, 11 and on the afternoon of October 14, 2021, the Ministry of Natural Resources released “Typical Cases of Ecological Restoration in China” (including 18 cases) at the Theme 4 – “On Ecological  Protection and Restoration Based on Natural Solutions” of Ecological Civilization Forum of COP15, among those 18 cases selected, the geological environment improving project - Lujinhu (Green-gold Lake) Mining Area Treatment in Huaibei city, Anhui province, invested and constructed by Anhui Construction Engineering Group on PPP mode, stood out from 127 cases recommended by relevant ministries and authorities, provincial natural resources departments, public welfare organizations and other unitswas successfully selected.

 

The geological environment landscaping and improving project - Lujinhu (Green-gold Lake) Mining Area Treatment, has been completed at the end of 2017, and in smooth operation for four years so far, with a revenue received totaling RMB1.3 Billion from the government as service fees.

Now, Lujinhu (Green-gold Lake) Mining Area has taken on a new look with a contiguous lake surface of 11,600Mu (1Mu equals to 666.67 Square meters)the land resources have been restored and the living and ecological environment improved, biodiversity has increased. Within the scope of the projectthere are 5 ecological islands, which provide habitats for more than 100 species of birds / animals and nearly 100 species of plants and the areas covered with trees and grasses planted reach tens of thousands of mu, - all these, have formed a veritable green lung for the city, playing a positive role in improving the microclimate in this region.

 

Not only that, the project, also promotes the revitalization of the travel industry; it receives more than 200,000 tourists a year.
